Suddaby's Crown Hotel has been a feature of Wheelgate, the main shopping street of Malton for longer than anyone can remember. Five generations of the Suddaby family have run the Hotel since 1879.
The Hotel itself is an old coaching inn built in the early 19th century after a fire had destroyed the previous building. The building's façade to Wheelgate is Grade II listed and many architectural and historic features of the building have been tastefully conserved. The stables of this coaching inn, which housed the horses, have now either been renovated or removed to create parking spaces for more modern vehicles! The conservatory area in the centre of the Hotel was constructed over the old courtyard several years ago.
Bed & Breakfast. The main body of the Hotel has six letting bedrooms on two floors. There are ample bathroom and shower facilities on both floors. Each room has a colour television together with tea and coffee making facilities. The Hotel is open for Bed & Breakfast guests. At present dinner is not served in the Hotel, however, there are several restaurants close by which provide English and Continental cuisine during the evening.
Ground Floor Bar. The Ground Floor Bar area is a very popular haunt for real ale drinkers - generally seven real ales are available at any one time, including at least four from our own brewery, located in the renovated stable buildings at the rear. The Hotel bar also offers a varied selection of outstanding quality malts and wines. Live music evenings, including jazz, folk and piano recitals take place regularly in the conservatory.
Meals. Lunchtime meals are served on Fridays and Saturdays between 12.00 noon and 1.45 p.m. A sandwich menu is provided Monday to Thursday. Teas, Coffees are available throughout the day.
